Killer Application

Just last week, I read with interest about the Defence Science & Technology Agency's (DSTA) 'TechX Challenge' in the papers. Essentially, participants have to come up with a robot that is able to 'search for a target, carry the required payload, and enter and exit a building. It must also be able to go from floor to floor via the stairs or the lift.' The team with the fastest robot will bag a cash prize worth $1 million.

Sounds an awful lot like a Terminator to me.

And today, I read about a call to Singaporeans to develop 'the next YouTube or Skype' by a Minister speaking at the World Economic Forum.

At the end of the day, looks like what is needed is a KILLER APPLICATION (gives a whole new meaning when you lump that robot challenge with this I.T. 'gem of an idea' challenge). Man...Ain't heard those words since the dot.com boom and playing Bullshit Bingo.

Haha! Is anything new under the sun? If I remember correctly, in the early 80's, Wordstar and Lotus 1-2-3 were the Killer Apps.

In this modern computer age where freewares (and I mean good ones) are aplenty, killer applications seem like an extinct species for all we know.

Of course, if you have advertising muscles like Microsoft, you can always reinvent a similar product like they do their flagship Windows (3.11, 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP - for Xtremely Painful, and the latest - Vista).

Bullshit Bingo? Never heard of it. Bet you've not heard of Baka Bingo, either. (well, I invented it, heh-heh!)

To 'hachiko monogatari':

You can always find out about Bullshit Bingo (in case you didn't click the link in my entry) at this url: http://elsmar.com/level2/Bingo.html

I definitely haven't heard of Baka Bingo. Do elaborate if you have time.

Excellent "robot" for the unkle who is like the Terminator as he can be found everywhere and can blend into hbd heartlands...

But if want to use him to attack neighbouring countries would be difficult as hard to blend...hahhaah

Singapore might have come up with its own killer application similar to what youtube offers if only its education system didn't stifle creativity so much.
