It was the second day of the COMEX exhibition at the Singapore Expo and I went down to get myself a new external hard disk. I happened to have a cold that day and my nose couldn't stop running. I had to head down that Friday as I didn't want worm my way through the crazy weekend crowd.
So off I went as Deckard Cain from DIABLO II said: "Quickly in, quickly out." Reached Hall 4, secured the hard disk and it's back to home. On my way out, (head feeling woozy from the constant sneezing and running nose) I heard quick footsteps advancing from behind. I continued walking. Then I heard a woman's voice call out:"Hey! hey!" I didn't stop to look and continued walking. All of sudden from my peripheral vision, a sweet-looking lass popped out and stopped me dead in my tracks:
I didn't say "hello" but smiled and raised a quizzical eyebrow.
"What did I buy?" I was stunned for a few seconds as I ran a search in my 'database' to find a match for this affable lady. Nothing. Could she be one of my blog readers? Now what was I thinking... Suddenly:
Turns out she was doing a survey for a credit card company. Somehow I felt 'emotionally robbed'. Laugh all you want, readers but the last thing I needed on that day was crap masquerading as a "friend-I-didn't-know-I-have". I waved a 'No, thanks' and went on my way. Wished I could do this:
And how I felt while waiting for the train to arrive could best be described by the following:
Whoever you are lady, "HUTDUGAIKARSUI!"

man, i hate those survey things! thank goodness i'm back to being a fulltime student now so i don't get harrassed as often as i used to when i was working... t-shirt and jeans don't exactly spell credit card material as much as officewear.
I make it a point to move in "Speedy Gonzalez" speed even if the approacher is a very very very beautiful woman.
Always did enjoy your doodles Dan. Actually calling your drawings doodles is the understatement of the year...
I can't help but to point out there a couple of spelling mistakes in the last pic. I don't know how to insert Mandarin words here, but its the word 'bachelor' and 'only' in the top right corner.
Maybe I can help out.. hehe...
"王老五"
"唯一"
anyway, i was at COMEX on friday too, they were having some teacher's day specials at the toshiba booth...
awesome, which holidays haven't they actually commercialised yet? hur hur hur :)
Hehe. I dug up some info myself with regards to:
1) "王老五" or "王老虎"?
Either is alright it seems. All my life I've only known "王老虎". And when used in the context of Tora-San, especially when TORA is Japanese for TIGER, "王老虎" is more appropriate. But thanks for the info on "王老五" nonetheless. Everyday is a learning experience.
2) "唯一" or "惟一"?
I checked two Chinese dictonaries back home. The 新世纪高级汉语词典 dictionary specifies "惟一" as default and mentioned that "唯" could also be used in place of "惟" on page 1304 (ISBN: 981-4070-36X).
While the 时代汉英词典 TIMES Chinese-English Dictionary specifies only "惟一" on page 406 (ISBN: 9971-4-6099-8).
Either these two dictionaries have printing errors or my Chinese Language teacher got problem :(
ay brudder, it is 'stunned' lah.. not stunt..
oh.. and another thing to add, the chinese character 'wei' that he wrote in the comic is correct..
i can bet my life on it.. hur hur.. you can either use this or use the one with kou zi pang ;)
To 'anonymous' with regards to: "ay brudder, it is 'stunned' lah.. not stunt.. "
A.O.: Yikes! Corrected typo. Thank you ah, brudder.
